A little bit about me...

Hi! My name is Emily! I am a wife, bio & foster mama to 4 kiddos, and have been a birth doula since 2017. I love Jesus and love being a part of my church (Union Culture Church- feel free to join me sometime!). I'm an ADHD mama and entrepreneur who is thinking of 1000 business ideas at a time. I love spending time with my family - my little family and extended family. I love roller coasters - the faster, higher, and bigger the better. Im a basic girly who loves a basic vanilla latte - hot in the morning, iced in the afternoon. My friends call me the babywhisperer cause I love rocking all the babies to sleep. Im passionate about foster care and adoption and will talk your ear off about it if you want to know more.

5 words that describe me

what is your doula style?

I am super passionate about education and empowering families. My goal is to teach clients all about their options and make sure they are making informed and intuitive decisions every step of the way. Advocacy is a major part of my role and ensuring clients are heard, respected and confident in their choices is very important to me.
I also love being proactive and hands on in birth. Ill be the doula that gets you moving, changing positions, and working with your body to move your baby down. I am very intuitive and empathetic - so I can read a room easily to know how to best support mom and do my best to help the rest of the team match that energy.

why did you become a doula?

My own birth experiences are what opened the door to me becoming a doula. With my first birth, I went into it with no knowledge of birth and planned to "go with the flow". I ended up with so many interventions and I didn't even understand or know my options. I felt like - due to my own ignorance - I missed out on truly experiencing birth for what it could be. For my second, I went about it completely differently. I hired a midwife and a doula, went to a birth center, took classes, read books and got so educated. I ended up having a super positive and empowering birth. I knew I wanted to help other moms feel as confident and empowered as I did - so I became a doula!

favorite types of births to support?

I love all my repeat clients who come back and allow me to be a part of their second, third (and even 6th! birth).

I also love "redemption" births - where the first birth - or a previous birth was not positive and maybe had trauma and they want something different - I want to see that redemption story happen.

I also love a homebirth. Seeing mom in the most intuitive and supportive space is such a special gift.

Working with East Raleigh Doula Co was truly a life changing experience and Emily will forever hold a special place in my heart.

I first worked with them in 2022/2023 during my first pregnancy, hoping for an unmedicated birth. All of the prep and support really made me feel so confident and even helped my husband to understand it was totally possible. However, I was diagnosed with HELLP at 39 weeks pregnant and rushed to an emergency c-section to save my and my baby's life. My heart was overjoyed to meet my daughter but heartbroken by what had happened. Emily and Kristen continued to reach out and check on me, offering any postpartum support I needed. Even though my headspace was not great, they continued to show up in such a supportive way.

When my husband and I decided to conceive our second child, I knew I immediately wanted to reach out to Emily. Throughout my pregnancy, Emily continued to be additional support and coach in my corner, knowing I wanted an unmedicated labor. At 38 weeks pregnancy I was diagnosed with pre-eclampsia and had to be induce. However, Emily and my midwives worked side by side with me to make smart and informed decisions - despite all the restrictions and limitations I was up against - to achieve my goal. After many hours of labor, we safely welcomed our second daughter into the world - all unmedicated. My husband, Emily and my midwives were all so proud of me and I was so proud of myself. None of this would have been possible without the support of Emily and East Raleigh Doula. Around 2am I remember Emily leaving to go home and just in awe at her grace and love, she truly is an angel.

My story of surviving HELLP and preeclampsia is very much a testament to the support of my midwives and East Raleigh Doula. I can not recommend working with them enough!
